Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge DAY 6 -FALL GRADIENT/OMBRE

Hey guys, today is the last day of the Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge. I must say that it was fun. I'm glad I participated in it. Thanks Kim!! I was forced out of my comfort zone and I really appreciate it!
 :-)

Today's Challenge was Fall Gradient/Ombre. I've never done a gradient manicure before, but I've always thought about it. I didn't know how I was going to do it so I googled some tutorials and I finally decided to do things my way, as usual.

What I used:

Finger Paints Tiffany Imposter
Zoya Frida and HK Girl topcoat

I painted my nails with two coats of Tiffany Imposter. I then topped it with HK Girl. I went about 3/4 down my nail with Frida and painted a jagged line with one thin coat. After, that dried I went down 1/2 my nail with Frida again and added another coat. For the last coat I went down my nail about 1/4 and painted again with Frida. I let this dry for a couple of minutes. Once dried, I added HK Girl topcoat.

I really like this manicure, but I wish I had taken my time and did a better job. I was in a time crunch when I did my manicure and didn't have time to painted carefully. But all in all, I really do love this manicure. I've also received several compliments.

Nails are a tad darker in person.

Next time I try this, I'll definitely carve out enough time to do it slowly and have time to clean up afterward. I had to go to my son's school and help the 1st graders tie-dye T-shirts! It was fun.

What do you think of this Gradient?

Zoya Carly

Today's post is about Zoya Carly, a cousin to Zoya Jem, in my opinion. (Click here to see Jem.)  Carly was apart of Zoya's Surf Collection Spring 2012. Carly is a beautiful sparkly, shimmery purple with pink undertones. Carly is very easy to work with and it applied very well. As always I had no issues with this Zoya polish.

Zoya describes Carly as, "Very rich, bold, red-toned dark purple with iridescent red and silver metallic shimmer and a dense foil finish. The bold color and sparkling foil finish make Carly like gift wrap for your nails."

Let's take a look at Carly:

                                                        All pictures are Natural light:

This is my first time using Carly and I absolutely LOVE it!! I love the shimmer in this. It's such a transitional polish. I think Carly definitely works well with any time of the year. It definitely work with this year's fall trends. Go check it out!! You need this polish. You can purchase Carly here!

Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge DAY 5 -LEAVES

Today's Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge is Leaves. I had no idea what to do. I did know for sure that I wasn't going to try and draw leaves on my nails. lol!! I'm not an artist! I decided to use fall leaf colors and go from there.

My first design didn't look right so I came up with another idea.  I just decided to do whatever came to my head. I like the result. Tell me what you think of my interpretation of "Leaves."

What I used:

butter LONDON Hardwear topcoat, China Glaze Luxe and Lush, OPI Flit a Bit, OPI Deer Valley Spice, OPI Here Today...Aragon Tomorrow and essence colour to go Just In Case

The result:

It has a metallic look to it. All in all, it looks very Fall-ish and I liked the way it turned out.

What do you think?

Zoya Jem for Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness Month

September is also Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness Month. Sickle cell anemia is a disease passed down through families in which red blood cells form an abnormal sickle or crescent shape. Red blood cells carry oxygen to the body and are normally shaped like a disc. Sickle Cell Anemia is very close to my heart because I have two younger brothers and they both have the disease. My cousin also has it.

Sickle Cell is something that people of African decent should definitely be aware of. Please know if you have the Sickle Cell trait and your partner as well. If you both have the trait you can pass the disease on to your children. For more information on Sickle Cell visit here

I'm wearing a Burgundy/maroon mani today in support of Sickle Cell. :-) I chose Zoya Jem. Zoya Jem is a beautiful red-purple color with gold flecks! I've loved Jem since the moment I saw it. I've had my eye on it and I finally bought it and used it today for this special post. Jem is a beauty. As with all Zoya nail lacquers, Jem applied great with no issues.

One coat of Jem had full coverage and NO streaks, but I added another coat just to be safe. I also, hit my nail so I had to put another coat and I didn't want the pictures to look weird :-).
Zoya describes Jem as, "A dark red-toned purple base with metallic dark pink highlights and subtle gold duochrome flecks.? This shade has it all; bold color, vampy drama, bright sparkle and a glam rock persona.?"

Now Take a look:

(natural light) Blurry to show the undertones.

Please support Sickle Cell Anemia!! Wear your Burgundy for Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness Month.

I really like Jem. And it reminds me of the old cartoon Jem. Do you remember the cartoon? What do you think?

Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge DAY 4 -Back to School

I was excited to do today's Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge because I knew I'd make Notebook Paper nail art. I knew exactly how I was gonna do the nail art. This is a simple idea because its just lines! Finally something I can do other than dots ;-)

What I used:

Zoya Snow White, Zoya Breezi, Zoya Tamsen
Zoya Shelby, Julep Stella and Art Deco Silver Striper

Notebook paper nails:

At the last minute, I added the pencil nail. I think it turned out great! I did, however, hit it as I was taking the picture and it wasn't completely dry :-(.

What do you think of today's nail art? I'm pretty happy!!

Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge DAY 3 -RAINY DAYS

Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge Day 3 is Rainy Days. I had no idea what to do for a rainy day manicure. When I first think of rainy days. I think gloomy, blue, grey, rain, thunder and umbrellas. Since this is what comes to mind, I got out my Zoya Natty, Evvie and Snow White and did whatever came to mind.

This Mani was a total fail. I was going for the gloomy look and I used the Saran wrap technique. I painted my first two nails in Evvie and the last two in Natty. I, then, added a umbrella to my ring finger with some rain drops and used the saran wrap to "sponge" on a little Snow White. Next, I mixed Evvie and Snow White and "sponged" on my middle finger. This gave the nail a marbled look. I continued this with the last two fingers. I like this technique, but this manicure didn't come out how I wanted.

Take a look:

My first finger has too much Snow White and looks like a snow storm instead of a rain storm. Ugh! I do, however, like the way my middle finger and pinky finger came out. I will be trying this technique again. It was easy.

My supplies:

Natty, Evvie, Snow White, Art Deco striper, HK Girl

saran wrap

Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge DAY 2 -BEACHY/TROPICAL

This theme was challenging for me. I am not an artsy person so I just decided to do a ombre of turquoise and teals. I used Zoya Zuza, China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise (here) and 2 The New Black colors from the Wave Ombre (here).

 Here is the result:

Doesn't it looks like water? I thinks so! I really liked the way it looked simple like this, but I wanted to add more to it. I added a sun and sand and a palm tree. My sun looked like an elephant so I had to do it over several times.

Here's the end result:

I wanted the sand to look sort of 3D, so I
applied it with a dotting tool.

It's not perfect, but it's pretty cool coming from me. I'm proud of myself. This challenge is doing just that, it's challenging my nails art.

All the nail polish I used:

Zoya Zuza, China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise (here) and 2 The New Black colors from the Wave Ombre (here), OPI Flit a Bit, 2 The New Black colors from the Runway Kit (here) and e.l.f Black.

What do you think?

butter LONDON Slapper -Teal for PCOS

September is PCOS and Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. I wanted to do my share and bring awareness to PCOS because there are a lot of women struggling with this. So by wearing teal we bring awareness to his disease. PCOS is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Here is their foundation page to give you more information.

Heidi from diypolish is a friend of mine/twin (same birthday) asked bloggers from the nail community to come up with teal manicures for her post. You can see her post here. I didn't do my mani in time, but I promised her that I still go through with it.

My teal manicure today is butter LONDON Slapper! I am in love with this one! My hubby surprised me a few weeks back with new butter LONDON polishes, my firsts!! Slapper has been a lemming of mine and I am so excited to tell you guys that I love it!! It is a dark teal creme. It has a very smooth finish and excellent application. The formula was AMAZING!!

In the pictures, I used two coats and no top coat. The pictures are not color accurate. I really am disappointed in my camera! It captured Slapper either to green or too blue. UGH!! Nonetheless, here she is...

Looky:

too blue

too blue

too yellow, but getting more color accurate

nope!

I really do love slapper and wished my camera would take color accurate photos. I'm so sorry guys, but this doesn't take anything away from Slapper.

Here's a shot from my iPhone4:

Sorry about the quality. The color
here is better, but still not great.

I have nothing bad to say about my first swatched butter LONDON. I really loved this fomula and if my other two are just as good as this one, I'll be a happy blogger.

OPI's Do You Lilac It? is a gorgeous lilac creme. I love this color. I think I say that a lot, oh well. We're all polish lovers here, right? Well, this polish is a beauty. It applied with no issues and dried fast. I only used two coats and no top coat.

Looky here:

So what is your opinion, Do you Lilac it? lol.
